You do not need a boat

Greenwich Yacht Club is a self-help club run by volunteers, which helps us keep the membership fees low.

You do not need to own a boat to become a member.

We expect all members to muck in and help with the running of the club, so the application process asks you to show that you are willing to get involved.

How it works

1. Download and complete the Membership Application Form and return it to the Membership Secretary, or come to the club on a Tuesday night (club night) and speak to the Membership Secretary at the desk at the top of the stairs.
2. Take part in two activities to show your willingness to participate: normally a monthly work party, where we tidy up the yard or do minor repairs, and a water-based activity.
3. Have an informal chat with two members, going through the reverse side of the application form.
4. Your application is approved by the committee, you pay your fees (pro rata for the remainder of the year) and you become a member.

The application form is a download on the club wiki. If you cannot find it, email the Membership Secretary at membership@greenwichyachtclub.co.uk or come to the desk at the top of the stairs on a Tuesday.

The interview and approval

The chat is informal: two members go through the reverse side of the application form with you. The committee then approves the application, you pay your fees pro rata for the remainder of the year, and you are a member.

Qualifying benefits

The club offers a 50% discount on membership and joining fees for people in receipt of Universal Credit or similar qualifying benefits. Contact the Membership Secretary for more information.
