Things people ask before they book
23 questions from the wedding and party brochures, answered as the club answers them. Anything else, ask the events team.
Booking and paying
01- What are your payment terms?
- We request a £500 deposit to confirm your date, and it goes towards your outstanding balance. 100% of the total venue balance and a £750 damage deposit are due seven days before your day, once final numbers have been confirmed. The damage deposit is held until after your event and returned to your chosen account assuming no extra costs have been incurred. Please see the terms and conditions for full details.
- Is the deposit refundable if we change venue?
- The deposit is not refundable unless the venue is unusable.
- Do you require ID from the hirer?
- Yes, we ask for a valid photo ID from the person signing the contract.
- How many events do you hold per day?
- We have two venues, the Clubhouse and the River Rooms, so it is possible that we could have two events on the same day. Don't worry: extra staff will be on hand to direct guests to the right venue.
Access and the day itself
02- When do we have access to the venue?
- For weddings, from 9am on the day; finish times depend on the day of the week. For parties, from two hours before the start of your function to decorate (one hour on Saturdays in the Clubhouse).
- Can I deliver or pick things up the day before or after?
- We can't promise availability before your event as we may have another function, and we strongly suggest that you take as much as you can with you on the night. If there is too much, we can arrange a time the following day for you to pick up the rest.
- What time do you stop serving drinks and playing music?
- We stop serving drinks and playing music 15 minutes before closing time.
- Do you have a preferred order of service at the venue?
- We are here to run your wedding day exactly as you want it. Traditionally you will sit down for your wedding breakfast before cutting the cake and making speeches, but to ease nerves you can always do them before the meal.
- Who are the licensed registrars for the venue?
- The registrars for our wedding venue in Greenwich are Greenwich Register Office. You can contact them on 020 8921 5015.
- Can we use the yard, the slipway or the pontoon?
- Unfortunately not. Only the designated venue spaces included in your booking may be used, as other areas of the club are privately owned and not part of the hire agreement.
Food and drink
03- Can we bring our own drinks?
- We do permit corkage on wine and fizz but no other beverages. All other beverages must be purchased and consumed at Greenwich Yacht Club. Corkage is charged per bottle opened, after it has been agreed with the manager. There is also a dry hire option; ask the venue manager for details.
- Can we bring our own caterers?
- We have put together a list of fantastic caterers for you to choose from that will satisfy all styles, tastes and budgets. It is possible to bring your own by paying a fee of £500 plus VAT and sending us their risk assessment, public liability insurance and food hygiene certificate. Your caterer will also be responsible for recycling their own oil.
- Do you include a cake stand and a knife if required?
- We do not offer cake knives or stands; please ask your cake maker to supply these.
Decoration, suppliers and music
04- Are candles permitted within the venue?
- Candles and tea lights are permitted for your tables so long as they are in a sturdy candle holder.
- Do you allow confetti at weddings?
- Yes, dried rose petals or biodegradable confetti, inside only.
- Do you allow fireworks?
- We do not allow fireworks (indoor or outdoor), Chinese lanterns or sparklers at Greenwich Yacht Club.
- Are we allowed to bring helium?
- You can bring a helium tank for your party, but you will be responsible for collecting it for disposal after the function.
- Can I use my own suppliers?
- For photography, decoration and entertainment you can use any suppliers, provided they give the venue a copy of their public liability insurance.
- Is there a music system we can use?
- We have a background music system with wireless microphones in both venues. For loud music and dancing you can hire a DJ set up for £250 plus VAT.
Getting here and getting around
05- Is car parking available to my guests?
- Greenwich Yacht Club has up to 15 spaces on weekdays and 30 at weekends, all complimentary on site for your guests to use on the day.
- Are there any local hotels that you would recommend?
- Greenwich has a wide variety of hotels and some lovely B&Bs. Please ask the venue manager for options.
- Are your venues accessible for wheelchairs?
- Both our venues comply with all government regulations and are suitable for wheelchairs.
- Do you have a cloakroom?
- We will provide you with coat rails for your guests. If you would like them manned there would be a charge for the staff member.
